Holy hamburger, Batman! Yeah, it's Vermont, and it's grass fed beef, but make no mistake - this is no hippie girlie burger joint. These things are thick, juicy and accompanied with all manner of Herculean fixings, like bacon, chorizo sausage, jalapeños and the like. And kudos for the great sense of humor - the sign outside said "Dinosaurs didn't eat our burgers, and now they're extinct." Well, I for one plan on avoiding the fate of the dinosaurs and will be swinging by whenever I'm on my way home from Okemo.

Stumbled apron this place when we needed a place to stop for lunch on our drive back to nj. The burger combinations were great! Sweet potato fries we good and I highly recommend ordering the maple mayo for dipping. Service was slow and the upstairs dinning area was cold otherwise this would have been a 5 star place.

Crucial update: Shona does BYOB! They have wine glasses & a corkscrew available. I love this place!!

If you want a great burger, this is the only show in town! Fabulous grass fed burgers cooked exactly how you want them! Excellent fries and the best coleslaw ever (no relation to oozy, sweetened junk usually found just about everywhere!). A wide variety of toppings are offered to customize your burger. Rueben sandwiches, local sausage, and other tempting stuff, too.

A very decent burger made with love. Vermont grass-fed beef, Vermont cheddar cheese on a brioche bun! Yes, yes, yes.. Check this place out if your in the area.

Spice burger, grilled cheese, sweet potato fries a perfectly delicious meal! Staff was so pleasant!!

We stumbled upon Shona Grill after a long drive from NY to VT. We were all craving some comfort food and Shona Grill served exactly that. The restaurant was clean and bright and had plenty of seating. We ordered the special of the day which was a roasted turkey sandwich with lettuce, tomato, crispy bacon, swiss cheese, and a yummy flavored mayo. It was hearty and all the ingredients were fresh. The owner brought us extra dipping sauces for us to try with our fries. We fell in love with her creative concoctions which included maple syrup mayo among other delish flavors. Her hospitality and generosity made our time there extra special. We will definitely return on our next trip to VT!

Black bean burger is fantastic!

Pros: 1) Cute Venue. 2) friendly staff. 3) outdoor seating. 4) delicious sweet potato fries. Cons: 1) Food wasn't very flavorful. 2) food takes a long time to come out. 3) overpriced for what you get. 4) no alcohol. Verdict: Great place to check out on a sunny afternoon. Great date stop.
(3)Jeanie P.
Hog wings are delicious according to my husband and son. Local meats, hand cut fries, and friendly wait staff make for a fantastic lunch. Well worth the visit!
(4)Jen H.
There are so many great options on the menu! My friend and I chose to share some eggplant fries and the buffalo chicken salad, and everything was delicious. I'll be back, for sure!

Amazing burgers!! I had the Vermont Burger and my husband had the Popper Burger, we shared a large fry. The maple mayo dipping sauce for the fries...awesome! We sat outside in the fresh air, which made the experience even better. You even get a spiritual message while in the bathroom "everything you can imagine is real." ~Pablo Picasso. Owner super friendly and filled with loving light :-) You have to try this place.
(5)David B.
Friendly service and great food. All ways a nice lunch stop. Dont drink the tap water. Love the fresh local ingredients.

Found this place on our drive up to ski Killington for the weekend. The owner/cook was super friendly and made awesome food! We were very impressed, considering we stumbled upon this place by chance. I had a delicious decked-out bacon Vermont cheddar cheeseburger with maple mayo and fries. (Loved the sauces at Shona's!) All of us were compelled to write a nice review, so here I am. We'd come back again if in Bellows Falls, Vermont!

Was in town on business and needed a decent dinner. Yelped the area and decided on this. Was expecting more of a restaurant with full service but this turned out fine. Ordered downstairs and waited upstairs till it was delivered. Had the Vt. cheddar and bacon burger with a touch of maple mayo and hand cut fries. Both were really good. Would give it 4 1/2 stars if I could. The only detractor was the bill which with soda and tip was just shy of $18.00. Regardless, I would still come back next time I'm in the area.
(4)Shelley S.
Best burger I've ever had! Great staff as well. Can't wait to go back.
(5)Katherine L.
I think this was the best pulled pork with coleslaw sandwich on whole wheat that I have ever had. Cheerfully prepared at 8:45 pm on Friday when I had to get off the interstate and detour around an accident. Definitely stop here.
(5)Erica M.
Amazing burgers and fries. Can't say enough about this place. You must try their Vermont Bacon Cheddar Burger and maple mayo with the burger and as a dipping sauce for the fries. I thought that I'd died and gone to heaven with this one!

What are all the good reviews about? While this place is long on enthusiasm, with a friendly staff, it is short on skill. Maybe it's a hit-or-miss kind of place, with good burgers and dogs, but not so special other items. For the price, we expected sensational food. We spent over $30 for two different chicken sandwiches, a large fries, and one side of potato salad. It would have cost even more if we'd ordered some beverages. Bellows Falls is a hard-scrabble place. How can a sandwich shop in a working-class town justify these prices and serve such mediocre food? Plus the restaurant is dumpy, with little service to speak of. The food is served in flimsy plastic baskets lined with paper, not on plates. We ordered at the counter and the food was brought to us after a long wait, and then we still had to ask for the dipping sauce we'd ordered. The supposedly German-style potato salad was served cold, which is not what we were expecting, since it should be served hot and have a taste of vinegar. This one tastes like mayo and was just slapped together. They were out of regular potato salad. The fries were tasty, with a strong potato flavor, but soggy and spongy. My chicken sandwich might have been better with the tomatoes it was supposed to have, but they were out of tomatoes. Also out of coleslaw. Also out of sweet potato fries. So much for coming in early and getting things ready for opening, or for managing deliveries to ensure a steady supply of ingredients. Do they not care, or are they such a shoestring operation, they can't take the time to be prepared and professional? The chicken was a large serving, but tough and not particularly tasty. The maple mayo tasted more like cinnamon glaze on a cinnamon roll than maple syrup. Unless you have a super sweet tooth, I don't recommend it. In fact, I don't recommend this place at all unless you intend to order burgers, which looked as good in person as they do in the online photos. Otherwise, the food is better at home. Also consider visiting some time other than Wednesday late lunch. We arrived about 1:30 and they were clearly still struggling to catch up from being closed each Tuesday.

The food is as good as ever. The staff is friendly and attentive, one time they asked me if I wanted arugula on my burger instead of lettuce and it was delicious! Their buns are really different and better than most. I come here once or twice a month and have never been disappointed.

I've eaten at Shona Grill twice since they opened and the first time was much better. I ordered the Black Bean Burger with lettuce and tomato and a side of fries. $21.38. I looked at the cashier. She quickly fixed the mistake. $13.07. I took a seat upstairs. When my burger came, it was in a to-go container. I opened it, and immediately saw bleu or feta cheese on the burger. The burger wasn't even mine, as it was clearly a meat burger of some sort. Not the most pleasant of things for a vegan to be served, but hey...mistakes happen. My burger came and the first thing I noticed was that the $3 side of fries was very, very meager. Couldn't have been more than 2 ounces or so. Smallest portion of fries I can ever remember being served at any restaurant of any kind in my life. The burger was great and pretty big. It had what I think were banana peppers....which I DID NOT order, but I was happy because they really tasted great on the burger. There was also some sort of white sauce that I couldn't discern and didn't order. Not even sure if it was a vegan sauce, but I ate the burger anyway. The food was good and the people friendly, but I left incredibly hungry and with buyer's remorse. I even considered asking for more fries for free. I'd have given 3 stars here if she'd given them to me, but I shouldn't have to do that. I ate 2 huge bananas in my car immediately afterward and was still hungry. All things combined made it a rather unpleasant experience. I'd eat there again, but that would be the last time if I have a similar experience.

My traveling companions and I ventured into Bellows Falls after picking the Shona Grill out from among the other lunch spots recommended on Yelp and the restaurant did not disappoint. The food is surprisingly wholesome, delicious, and prepared well for an order downstairs and they'll bring your food to you in a red plastic basket lined with paper joint. The service, likewise, is refreshingly good, genuine, and accommodating. The stand out on the menu: Hog Wings. Lightly fried pork shanks bathed in Buffalo sauce. Other sauces are available, too, but keep it real and go with the original. Fred and Julie from Brooklyn

Chad's eSCAPE review. Service: You enter downstairs and place and pay for your order. The seating is upstairs and the meals are brought to you in baskets. The cashier and the server were friendly but not overly attentive. Once outside the table itself was not very clean. We passed the first table to sit at the second. Cost (+): Very reasonably priced choices. The portion sizes were very large and fulfilling. Atmosphere (+). The dual level layout is interesting and provides a new experience. Once upstairs there is also an outside option for dining. The entire place is not very large and they made great use of the space. The outside seating is definitely the way to go. It would not have been as good an experience inside. Palate (+). I got the Vermont burger (with mustard instead of mayo). The burger was very good and a great choice. The vegetable toppings were very large and fresh. My colleague also ordered a custom burger and was very satisfied. The hand-cut fries though were just average. Everything Else. Small town restaurant. I am glad it wasn't too busy as I don't know how quickly they would have been able to serve us. The drink options were somewhat limiting and I noticed no beer or wine availability.
(3)Bill S.
Small-town Vermont but big-time food. It's a grill, not fine dining, of course, but the folks in the kitchen know what they're doing, starting with their yummy grass-fed beef burgers prepared the way you like them. We're fond of the Vermont burger with bacon, Vermont cheddar and maple mayo, but you can get your burger with many different fixings including chorizo. The fries are hand-cut, and they also make some really delicious onion rings. The salads are large and freshly made, and they offer up a variety of sandwiches (the Reuben is especially tasty). You enter the small restaurant on the street, place your order and sit either upstairs on a patio, on a table front of the entrance or inside (one table and some bar chairs) and wait for your food to be brought to you. The service is quick and friendly; even with a pretty good crowd we've never waited more than a few minutes. Everything is for take-out, and they're open until 9pm daily, too.
(4)Matt B.
Small town restaurants are hit or miss for me, this place is a hit though for sure. Shona Grill is creative and refreshing from head to toe. The food is unique and delicious, offering burgers, sausages and sandwiches with toppings and sauces that you won't find many other places. It's a 2 story snow-lodge looking place where you order on the first floor and find seating on the 2nd floor loft overlooking the river. They bring your food up to you and you go to town! There is also a 2nd floor deck that I'm sure would be beautiful in the summer. I made my own burger; grass fed beef, bacon, pickles, onions, chipotle ketchup and sriracha on a brioche bun. On the side I had onion rings with their house Shona dipping sauce which was unreal! Burger was perfectly cooked and juicy, onion rings were crispy and everything was served hot and fresh.
